Opinions and experiences of visitors with Le Champ du Moulin: Association "Club du soleil de Troyes"
We are also curious about your experiences with Le Champ du Moulin: Association "Club du soleil de Troyes". Please let us know!
We stayed here in August 2017 and only booked by email on our way there as our French is not great and a phone conversation would be a little difficult for me.
Having read the most recent review I was not eager to visit however my partner wanted to go.
The site is more of a club similar to ones in U.K. with a pool, boule areas an indoor area with microwave, pool table etc. There is a covered BBQ area we saw being used. The members have a bar that seems to be open mid afternoon to around 7-8 pm. They sell a good selection of wine and beer at affordable prices.
Most of the volunteers only appear to speak French so you need to be prepared and have a go at remembering your school French. We were fortunate that there were several Dutch visitors who have a much better grasp and helped us out. Everyone was friendly and I would return.
During our stay it was hot and sunny and the pool acts as a sun trap with loungers, chairs & umbrellas provided.
The "stagnant pond" mentioned in another review makes it out to be much worse. It looks like it has been part of old quarry working or similar but it is a total haven for wildlife and we had a nice walk round. A pedalo and boats are there for use although we didn't try them. I personally didn't have any trouble with mosquitos and I am always a magnet for them so I wouldn't worry too much.
The facilities are good although dated but that is something that is difficult to change. The toilets had both toilet seats and toilet rolls unlike some toilets visited in France. Showers were ok and hot & operated by jetons but you can't hang around as they run out so be ready with you shampoo etc.
The site is also handily situated from the peage.
For us the crowning glory of this site has to be the walk to the River Seine and the small "beach" area. We spent a good deal of time here one evening buying a bottle of champagne (€20) from the bar and taking it down to enjoy the peace and quite while the sun set and even saw a Kingfisher here.
