Culver Beach aka Yaverland

The naturist section is at the far end of Yaverland beach, beyond the red cliffs. When the tide is out, the sands are amongst the best in the UK and as it shelves gently, super safe. On a summers day, there may be 15-20 folk getting an all over tan. Mainly guys but occasionally couples. It’s normal to use the upper level, which is small pebbles, for both privacy and also because the incoming tide - especially during Springs - comes high up. At low tide, it’s great to walk across the warm sand for a swim but be aware that many walk the stretch of the beach and may be surprised to encounter nudity. Generally no one raises and eyebrow and it’s all fine. At high tide, this section of the beach can be cut off for a few hours, giving total privacy. The red cliffs are dangerous and there are regular falls. As such, one should avoid walking close to them and wait until at least half tide. The nearest facilities are a mile away back at the car park with a cafe and toilets.

Holkham Beach

Love this beach! It’s a bit of a trek to get there, but flat and easy walking. There are sign posts marking the start of the naturist section and a cluster of tents and windbreaks show where folk like to settle - especially when the tide is far out. I love the term ‘free range naturism’ and it certainly applies here - being able to walk naked, with complete freedom, for miles - is just wonderful. Since the beach was temporarily closed due to bad behaviour in the dunes, there are occasional patrols by the Holkham Estate but they are very friendly. Expect the odd horse rider or folk walking the coastal path but generally the vibe is very cool and relaxed. On a warm day, there could be several hundred naturists and has a nice vibe.

Blackgang Beach

It’s certainly a private spot, mainly because it’s so hard to get too. A narrow path down from the car park on the Old Blackgang Road, winds its way around and through the undercliff. If wet, it can be very slippery and care needs to be taken. The climb back up is a slog and not easy. The beach itself is made up of very fine golden stones which are comfortable to lay on. Care needs to be taken with vulnerable and soft cliffs that can see regular rock falls. The beach shelves deeply and there are strong currents so swimming is only advisable for those confident in their abilities. On a hot day, it’s a popular spot and because of its location, has an ‘anything goes’ vibe. The beach stretches for miles allowing those who like to ‘play’ plenty of privacy but don’t be surprised to see all sorts of goings on from the unabashed or exhibtionist!
